Three Peaks in 24 Hours

Conquering Three Peaks for PSC Support

Embracing Life’s Highs with Loved Ones

My name is Adam and eight years ago, my outlook on life changed when I was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), a rare and, unfortunately, incurable auto-immune liver disease.

Diagnosis and Early Challenges

In 2015, prior to my PSC diagnosis I was also diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis, as well as celiac disease and ulcerative colitis. My amazing doctors at Whiston and St Helens hospital have supported me endlessly and have fought my corner, who knows where I would be without them. It’s been so tough at times, but I wouldn’t have got through it without the people around me.

There have been many highs and lows managing PSC, navigating life with a different mindset, overcoming setbacks including IBD, mental health and a brief spell with kidney cell cancer in 2021. To say it’s been a tough journey is an understatement.

Living with PSC has its challenges, but with the support of my amazing fiancé, family and friends I've decided to face them head-on, get proactive, and stay positive to make a difference for those living with this disease and those fighting to cure it. We must keep pushing forward.

Adam and his fiancé Lauren training for the UK Three Peaks Challenge

Along with a group of my incredible friends, we decided to get active, take action and stick a big middle finger up to PSC.

The National UK Three Peaks Challenge

On 9th June 2024, we took on the National UK Three Peaks Challenge, an arduous adventure where we scaled the three highest peaks in the UK in just 24 hours. This was a symbolic and physical representation of my own journey with PSC, and I did it to support all those who, like me, live with this condition and the uncertainty it brings.

There were 9 of us taking part on the day, we’re all childhood friends and they are the most unreal lads, we have known each other for absolute years but I love them to bits for supporting me with this challenge, through my whole diagnosis they’ve been there. A few of us have dodgy knees but we pushed through!

At 12pm on 9th June we got started, completing Ben Nevis from bottom to top and back down again in 5 hours.

Next we headed to Scafell Pike and scrambled through the night completing this peak in 3hrs 20minutes before making our way to the final peak - Snowdon!

The team scrambled through the night reaching the peal of Scafel Pike in 3hrs 20 mins.

We faced some tough conditions including snow, rain and cold but we never gave up and completed the UK’s highest 3 peaks in 23 hours 8 minutes! Thanks so much for all your support and donations, you are all amazing.

All hands in as the team reach the final peak of Snowdon

Living Positively with PSC and Supporting Research for a Cure

I wanted to show the world that even with illness, you can find positivity and keep pushing forward to live life to the full and enjoy every moment, it’s only a small part of my life. My fiancé Lauren and I are getting married this year too, so it’s a busy fulfilling year. We are passionate about supporting research for PSC, so there’s better understanding. The work that PSC Support are doing gives me and others so much hope for the future so we want to support as much as we can.

Thank you Adam, Lauren and everyone on the Mannix Fundraising Team who raised over £4,000 for PSC Support.
