New Survey! Endoscopy Research
Opinions Wanted!
If you've had experience of an endoscopy, you could help identify what research needs to happen to make endoscopies better.
Guts UK have launched a survey about the future of research into endoscopy procedures.
Guts UK is leading a new "Priority Setting Partnership ("PSP")" for endoscopies. PSPs bring together patients, carers and healthcare professionals to identify and prioritise the top ten important areas for research. This is important because the top ten areas are most likely to get research funding, and that's critical for rare diseases like PSC.
An endoscopy is the general name for a test that looks inside your body such as a colonoscopy, gastroscopy or ERCP.
Why is this Important?
This is a great opportunity for PSC patients to help shape the direction of research into this important area. As a group of patients, people with PSC may experience a number of different types of endoscopy. For example, colonoscopies to check the health of our bowels, ERCPs to look inside our bile ducts or endoscopies to check or manage varices (enlarged veins).
By completing this survey we can use our voice to raise questions about these procedures that we would like answered with research. We know from our work with thousands of PSC patients that the following questions are important. If you agree, please take 5 minutes to complete the survey, or feel free to add your own.
- How can we make the colonoscopy preparation easier to take, and more effective?
- Is general anaesthetic better for patients undergoing ERCPs than sedation?
- How can we minimise the risk of infections post ERCP?
The deadline to complete the survey is Friday 18 July, 5pm.
