Maralixibat (Mirum Pharmaceuticals)

If you are experiencing itch and have had a colectomy (but not a liver transplant), there may be a treatment option for you to try. Before the 28th of January, a drug called maralixibat will be available from University Hospitals Birmingham, the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and the Royal Free Hospital in London.

About Maralixibat

Although this drug is not licensed for use in PSC, maralixibat is currently licensed to treat itch in children with different bile duct condition called Alagille syndrome.

The pharmaceutical company that produces maralixibat (Mirum Pharmaceuticals) has launched an Expanded Access Programme to make this drug available to people with PSC who have had a colectomy. Unfortunately, it is not available to people who have had a liver transplant.
